MUJI の、香り。
Over the weekend, I was in the Muji / 無印良品 / near Yurakucho Station and this poster stopped me.
A short text reads "の、香り。” and connects two horizontal images.
The top image shows a bundle of lavendar and the bottom, a Muji aroma diffuser.
Its simplicity is arresting, but what does it mean?!
の、香り means “the scent” or “the fragrance" so that’s that.
But the images imply something much deeper, which is that the design of Muji’s products is inspired by or derived from nature.
A little catalogue-study led me to the fact that this diffuser is special because it uses ultrasonic waves to disperse its fragrant mist. It works without heat and, so the catalogue says, preserves the aroma of essential oils better.
There is nothing like a poster with a somewhat open message to get one’s curiosity up.
