深澤 直人 / Naoto Fukusawa
Have you heard of Naoto Fukusawa / 深澤 直人 /?
If you don’t recognize his name, you would probably recognize his work.
Fukusawa-sama is a Japanese product designer.
He sits on the design advisory board of MUJI and has worked as a consultant for major domestic manufacturers.
He has won numerous design awards including 2018 Isamu Noguchi Award.
He published several books, most recently Naoto Fukasawa Embodiment with Phaidon.
Since 2012 he has been director of the Nihon Mingei-kan, Japanese Folk Crafts Museum.
My favorite design piece from Fukusawa-sama, is the Hiroshima / 広島 / arm chair.
Released in 2008, the chair reflects both a Japanese aesthetic applied to wood, and the skills that make it possible to be brought to life.
According to the product listing from maker/marketer Maruni, "The gentle curve from the back along the arm is very appealing”.
I agree. The chair is りっぱ.
