ローラ, Again

ローラ, Again

I see these ads from Japanese skincare and costmetics brand TBC everwhere these days.

And I always look twice but not because the image ローラ in a swimsuit, but because the image has layers or edgest removed so that parts of the swimsuit and shoes appear to disappear against the background.

The traditional art world word for this is “tromp l’oeil”. In Japan people call it ぎじ, I think.

Here are directions for a simple three-step analysis: (1) look closely at the left side of swimsuit, see the line (2) look closely at the right side of the swimsuit or the shoes, no line (3) look again and again and again.

The text reads … はじめよう、 肌 から。 That means something like … let’s get started, from skin.

Made you look!
