Luxuriously Spare

Luxuriously Spare

I recently started re-reading Plain Space, a catalogue of the work of British architectural designer John Pawson known for his minimalist aesthetic.

Pawson’s rigorous pursuit of simplicity and keen attention to the details of everyday life have resulted in a new type of architecture, and this book collects the best examples from the past 10 years or so.

Written by Allison Morris, writer-in-residence at the Pawson office, the text explains the work and the people behind it.

Published by Phaidon, the book is beautifully photographed to show the projects in-progress and completed.

The book presents Pawson’s residential and commercial work through a set of chapter-categories such as Objects In Landscapes, Apartments, Unbuilt Projects, Spatial Interventions.

My favorite (pictured above) is Baron House, located in rural Skåne Sweden. It is a modern farm house, built “luxuriously spare" for creative director Fabien Baron and his family as a sanctuary home away from New York City.
