Shop Windows
Aesop's shop windows are always great to look through.
But right now in New York City they are great to look at.
All of Aesop’s stores around town recently started showingcasing large-scale hand painted illustrations of magnolias to mark the launch of a new fragrance, Aurner.
Some also have catch-copy that reads "A different bloom" connecting them to the new product whose signature ingredient is Magnolia Leaf.
The magnolia flowers on the windows are depicted in grayscale. Up close they appear to be abstract lines and blotches of white, gray and black, but from a few steps back they resolve into clearly recognizable images. Unfortunately you'll have to imagine them (above) because I can't find any good photographs online yet.
These noticeable murals seemed to appear everywhere all at once - in Aesop’s Soho, Hudson Yards and NOMAD stores. This timing must have been quite a challenge for Mural Painters Inc., the small shop based in Hoboken that made them.
The windows reflect Aesop's knack for great visual marketing and merchandizing.
Aesop is pretty good with words too. I love the description of Aurner’s wearer as “all genders; engimas, alchemists, horticulturalists.”
If you see any good pictures of the magnolia windows online, please let me know.
