Alexandre Desplat
That's him on the right, next to Wes Anderson.
Alexandre Desplat (surname pronounced "dez-PLA") is a film composer who writes the music for Wes Anderson's best movies.
More broadly, IMO, he has written the music for many of the best movies of the current generation - period.
It seems like such a wild claim, but if you go to Apple Music and listen to the "Alexandre Desplat Essentials" playlist you will hear what I mean.
I was recently re-listening to the original score for the film The French Dispatch and the music conjurs the images so well. Its musical sense of humor rises to the occasion perfectly to match Wes Anderson's visual one.
A tuba tiptoe-ing around in "Animated Car Chase". Or playing at the top of its range in "Commandos, Guerillas, Snipers, Climbers and The Jeroboam".
Or in the extremely inclusive orchestration of "Obituary" which includes Taiko Drums, a Banjo, a String Quartet, a Harpsichord, a Piano, a Clarinet, an Oboe, a Triangle, a Tuba and a French Horn.
Desplat's wikipedia listing shows his collaboration with Wes Anderson starting in 2009 with Fantastic Mr. Fox, followed by Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle of Dogs, The French Dispatch and Asteroid City.
Desplat's collaborations with other film directors include Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Barbie), Guillermo Del Toro (Shape of Water, Pinocchio) and Tom Hooper (The King's Speech, The Danish Girl).
His work is … incroyable, n’est pas?
