New data from GroupM is predicting a fast recovery for the advertising industry this year.

Actually, it is predicting more than a fast recovery from the steep decrease in 2020. It’s predicting double growth compared with 2019, which was not a bad year.

The detail above was pulled from a chart published by Axios, built on the new GroupM data.

What are some of the drivers?

Sporting events (including the Tokyo Olympics), live entertainment and travel will come back fast, to name a few.

Am I feeling it yet?

Yes, but as a digital marketer in the technology category it feels muted, perhaps because our category was not hit comparatively as hard when the pandemic began. Planes were grounded, stores were closed, sports events were cancelled … but cloud computing services stayed up and running and if anything, became even more essential for commerce.

By the end of the year, analysts predict advertisers in all but the slowest moving categories will be part of the snapback.
