THE ETERNAL PURSUIT OF UNHAPPINESS

THE ETERNAL PURSUIT OF UNHAPPINESS

"The Eternal Pursuit Of Unhappiness" is one of my favorite little books.

It was given to employees of Ogilvy & Mather on the occasion of Miles Young becoming CEO.

EPU, as some call it, explains "Divine Discontent" as a habit of creative communities.

It posits that a certain type of purposeful dissatisfaction is the secret to improvement of creative work.

One line from the book that I think of often when reviewing work done by others is "Don't ever, ever let a single scrap of rubbish out of the agency."

Easy to say, hard to do!

Although the industry that David Ogilvy worked in has changed beyond recognition, this challenge to keep trying to "make it better" persists.
