JPN タクシー

If you live in Tokyo, you are no doubt seeing more of the glossy-black new JPN Taxis on the roads. 

To me they signal the approaching Tokyo 2020 Olympic games more than just-about anything else. 

Here are some facts about them:

• based on Toyota’s JPN Taxi Concept introduced in 2013

• hybrid gas/electric power train

• low floor, high ceiling design

• around 10% of taxis on the road right now, will be closer to 33% by Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Don’t they remind you of black cabs in London? 

Body shape aside, there are a number of differences: hybrid engines, electric sliding doors on the sides, no jumpseats, no “oh shit!” handles.
